P3b celebrate World Book Day

World Book Day was on the 2nd March.  We celebrated by dressing up as characters from books and comics. When we arrived in the morning we had a guessing game to identify the different costumes in the class.  We enjoyed finding information in books and we even created our own book covers, which we have displayed around the school.  Claire Smith came into class and read us a story from our school library.  The story was about a little bear who heard noises, it was very funny.  We love books in primary 3b!

Tavish Scott MSPTavish Scott

‘I like that he answer normal questions and that he was friendly; he said he is a dog person’

‘I liked finding out that he was a farmer in Bressay and then he turned into a politician’

‘It was interesting how he answered the questions with so much passion and detail and when he spoke about issues like broadband; he told us how he would actually make things better’

‘We were interested in young scot cards and would like to find out more about how it could be linked with the ADS scheme so that our schools could use the discounted fares without needing our parents to give the school our ADS cards’

Term 3 2014 2015 Eco Update

Logo Competition

Harry P5A and Mackenzie P4B were our logo design winners; above is the Sound School Eco Logo which combines their two ideas

Energy Month

We took part in energy month and managed to reduce the schools use of energy.

Alan Grieve, from the SIC Energy Department, talked to the Eco Club about energy use and let us use his energy monitor to calculate the money it costs to run school lights, laptops and whiteboards.

We calculated that having the classroom whiteboards on 6 hours a day for the school year would cost around £2,500.

Teachers and pupils have now started turning off their whiteboards at break, lunch and when they aren’t being used.

Recycling

P4 and P7 have been taking our plastic bottles to the bottle bank. Remember to use your ‘feed me plastic bin’. We still recycle our fruit and veg to make compost every day.

Eco Schools Visit

Eco Schools Scotland are coming to Sound School in the next term or so, to see all our fantastic work to reduce, reuse and recycle. Hopefully, we will get our next Eco Flag.

What Next? Waste Week, flower planting and Water Week.
